Site restored (somewhat)

The main site is now back up and you can all resume your deforming of asteroids and other celestial bodies!

How long was it gone? Honestly I have no idea. Months… years? Probably the latter as we have mostly had our focus on other things the past decade.
The wordpress theme is slightly off as we couldn’t use our old one anymore but this will have to do for now. The download section being visible again is the most important thing after all!

Looking for players?

Feeling down because the Celestial Impact servers are empty and you have noone to play with? Worry not!

Recently, a Social Modding Club group was formed over at moddb.com and they have included Celestial Impact as one of the games they are playing. According to the group owner:

The goal of this group is to allow members to easily plan and schedule events for gamers to play together. My hope is that this will allow gamers to experience some of the amazing online mods that don’t always have a large user base.

Bring your friends and hook up with other people from all over the world to schedule playing hours for Celestial Impact and several other games.

Most Innovative Multiplayer

ModDB anounced that the winner of Most Innovative Multiplayer 2008 is: Celestial Impact!

http://www.moddb.com/events/2008-mod-of-the-year-awards/news/editors-choice-most-innovative-multiplayer

We would like the thx the jury for this great award.

“Celestial Impact is absolutely ground breaking in my opinion. Running with the flag and propelling yourself into the sky and creating a walkway 100 feet in the air is priceless. So is having the guy chasing you take out the ground below you or encase you in the ground… quality and unique multiplayer action”  –DOLBYdigital

15 000 downloads!

Some unofficial counting has made us believe that Celestial Impact now has reached more than 15000 downloads. Thanks everyone!

I would also like to congratulate our team member Daniel Wikell for getting the prestigious title Desenvolvedor. Salute to you!

On the horizon we are currently working on a patch that includes several fixes and some changes you players have given feedback about. Version 1.01 is expected in a few days. Keep posting your opinions about the game in our forum. Currently we want to know your suggestions for secondary fire modes for the weapons. Of course any ideas you have are of interest.

Don’t stop deforming!

Press Release
————————————-
The team behind Celestial Impact is proud to present Celestial Impact 1.00
After almost one year of public beta, the game has now reached a complete version.

What is Celestial Impact?

Celestial Impact is a free multiplayer-only game available for PC.

Celestial Impact is a team based multiplayer first person shooter (FPS) set in space on an asteroid with spherical gravity. What makes this FPS really special is that the landscape is fully deformable in all directions.
Each player is equipped with, apart from a commonly seen weapon arsenal, a special tool called Dirtgun. With the Dirtgun, players can add or remove terrain during combat as they see fit, simply by aiming and firing the dirtgun. Depending on the chosen action, this will either add or remove a chunk of dirt from the landscape.

Ran in to a wall that is too high to jump over? No problem, just build a slope and walk over the wall, or perhaps dig a tunnel going under it.
Need a breather from intense combat? No sweat, dig a cave and go hide inside.
Since the layout and flow of the landscape in the maps depends on the player’s actions, playing a particular map will be a different experience each time.

Celestial Impact features several game modes such as a classic CTF (Capture The Crystal in this case), a regular deathmatch mode and Crystal Rounds. Crystal Rounds will prompt the players to defend one of their team-members alternatively assault one of the opposing team-members depending on which team currently has the crystal in their possession. Build and dig your way around the landscape in various strategic ways as you seek out and steal the crystal from your opponents.

About the developers

Celestial Impact is a PC game developed in Sweden that started with a few university students having an idea of an unusual and fun game. The idea evolved into a larger project and has now reached a complete version. The team behind Celestial Impact currently consists of only three persons all three living in Stockholm and they have created the game from scratch during their spare-time.

Celestial Impact is currently competing as an entry in Swedish Game Awards 08

Henning goes gameawards workshop

On Saturday March 1st our main programmer Henning Tegen will make a one hour presentation during the Swedish Game Awards Workshop at 5:30 pm. Henning is going to give a crash course of the Quake 3 source code, the game that so many people thought Celestial Impact was built on (which it’s not!).

The theme of the evening is modding, but since the Quake 3 source code is open source there is no limitation to what you can do compared to making traditional mods for it, so Henning will go deeply technical into some of the major parts of the code to shed light on some techniques that are still used in today’s game engines.

UPDATE!
The presentation can be viewed here:

The Celestial Impact beta, out soon

We are working very hard trying to create a version that could function as a beta that will be playable for everyone. We initially promised to have one right after the SGA Grand Finale, but since we didn’t win we felt we could delay the beta a bit to be able to add some extra stuff to improve the game speed and to fix the master-server so that you’ll be able to see all public CI-servers.

We are hoping to have one ready some time during the upcoming weeks.
